Consider this like an arts and crafts kit project - akin to your child making a pot holder orthose rubber band loop things - where the PROCESS of making the final product holds the real value of the toy. My 9 year old son really likes these 4M kits - i would suppose I would recommend them all. This particular one requires some art in addition to the growing skills in kids to be able to follow written instructions, compare illustrations to what is in the hand, hand eye coordination, and troubleshooting skills.

Very easy for a child to assemble one of these things in an hour or less with so little room for error - it is hard to mess it up. The end result something they put on a shelf and on occasion turn on to show people or play with like that potholder in your kitchen.

There is a sense of pride with making something un assisted or with little assistance , with 'grown up' things like wires and batteries I ordered a bunch of these for my son's birthday party. For a toy ostensibly meant for kids, there are a surprising amount of little tiny screws.

You will need an eye-glass type screwdriver to put it together, which is a trick difficult for little kids. That said, it's a charming little kit and not too hard for someone with experience putting other toys together. Like the other review, we had a wire break off -- but I was able to hold it in place with electrical tape just fine.
